Walking
⭐ Almost everything on this site is inside twenty minutes on foot from the Mezquita. The old city is largely pedestrian, the lanes are narrow, and there is no useful shortcut — walking is not the budget option here, it is the only sensible one.
⚠️ The lanes are cobbled and uneven. Wheeled luggage over the Judería is unpleasant, and shoes matter more than usual.
Arriving
The station is on the high-speed line and sits north of the old city, about a twenty-five-minute walk from the Mezquita or a short taxi ride.
⚠️ Driving into the old city is a bad idea — much of it is restricted and the lanes were not built for cars. If you arrive with one, park outside and walk in.
The one that needs transport
Medina Azahara is eight kilometres west and is not walkable. There is a shuttle from the city and a separate shuttle from the site museum up to the ruins. ⚠️ Check what is running before you commit an afternoon.
