Felipe II founded the stables in 1570, on ground beside the Alcázar, specifically to develop what became the Andalusian horse. They have been used for horses more or less continuously since.
⭐ The interior is a long vaulted hall on columns — closer to a church than to a barn, which tells you how seriously the enterprise was taken.
Equestrian shows run in the arena. ⚠️ They are ticketed and scheduled; the operator publishes what is on.
Our tip
Even without a show, look in at the vaulted hall — it is not what a stable usually looks like.
