Why here
Córdoba sits at the point where the Guadalquivir stopped being easily navigable from the sea. That made it a natural head of navigation and a natural place to bridge, which is why there has been a city on this bend since before the Romans formalised it.
What to see on it
The Roman bridge and the Calahorra tower at its far end. The medieval mills in the river below the bridge, which used the current to grind grain and are ruins now.
⭐ The Sotos de la Albolafia, the reedy islands under the bridge, are a protected bird reserve inside the city. Herons and egrets are ordinary sightings from the bridge parapet.
